Texting and Driving

texting and drivingTexting has to be one of the biggest distractions drivers face today while driving. It is very hard for some drivers not to answer their phone when it begins to vibrate on their dashboard, seat or lap. Texting while driving is listed number 1 as the top cause of accidents in the United States. Texting requires you to take your eyes off the road and when you take your eyes off the road for even a few seconds, anything might happen.

You may only have a second to respond to a certain change on the road. Missing this change can result in catastrophe. Most people primarily think of teenagers when discussing texting while driving. However, young adults and even older drivers engage in this distraction. Texting while driving increases the risk of having a car accident 23 times. Everyday more and more drivers are starting to text while driving making the possibility of accidents to increase even more.

A NHTSA and Virginia Tech study says texting while driving can create an epidemic of driving mishaps. More states are pushing to pass laws that prohibit texting while driving and some states are pushing to prohibit the use of mobile devices of any kind while driving a vehicle.

If you find yourself seriously injured from a car accident due to texting you will need to enter a rehabilitation center to recover the full use of your body. Most rehabilitation clinics take care of treating patients on a one on one basis by providing a personal relationship between patient and physician. Each staff member handles each individual in unique ways, for each patient has a different injury and is therefore unique. Each staff member is trained and experienced in other the different methods each clinic uses to treat accident survivors.

A number of clinics can offer Cryotherapy, which uses low temperatures to lower body temperature. Interferential/ TENS is also used and is the skill of sending low voltage electric currents to your nervous system. Your nerves then send messages to your brain, jumbling your perception of the magnitude of pain. This method is completely pain free and harmless.

Other methods clinics use include:

  • Moist heat like hot baths and steamed towels
  • Stretching: stretching exercises are performed to rebuild your body
  • Balance training for the benefit of rebuilding your body
  • Strengthening exercise like weight lifting, resistance bands, and more
  • Cardiovascular conditioning involves massaging the injured area and around it

You can prevent an accident by not texting while driving. Turning your phone off before you sit behind the steering wheel will eliminate your risk of texting while driving. However, if you cannot turn your phone off while driving, pull over to the side of the road when you need to use your device to text and make calls. Some cars and phones offer speakers to enable hands free conversation in a vehicle. When in the car with others, ask them not to text while driving. There are several options to texting while driving, embrace them, experiment and try new options. You can save your life and others.
